Studio Class Descriptions

TRAPEZE and OTHER AERIAL DANCE

Adult Beginning Trapeze II: As a continuation of beginner trapeze, in this class students will expand their vocabulary on the trapeze and work on transitions between moves. Participants will explore improvisation, continue learning trapeze skills, and continue strengthening and stretching.

Adult Intermediate Trapeze: In this class students will continue to work on technique, as well as exploring the more creative side through structured improvisation and creating a group and individual pieces.

Adult Advanced Trapeze: In this class, participants will expand the trapeze vocabulary, learning more structured sequences as well as creating short improvisations alone and with partners. Centering your body/mind and having fun will balance exertion and challenge throughout the class

Adult Trapeze Repertory: This is a closed class for students in the performing company. If you are interested, please contact the instructor.

Preschool Trapeze: Children will learn new ways to use their bodies, on the floor and in the air, in a playful and nurturing atmosphere, gaining confidence, strength, balance, and flexibility. This class will emphasize exploration and social development, as students begin developing the body strength and awareness that form the foundation for future trapeze work/play. Students will learn beginning trapeze techniques, and explore concepts--such as shape, level, tempo, and rhythm--that expand movement into art. A parent must be present to assist with the child as needed.

Kids Beginner Trapeze (K- 4th): In this class students will learn basic trapeze skills including proper technique and tricks. Students who attend with regularity will build a repertoire of moves, creating small dances. No experience is necessary for this class.

Kids Advanced Trapeze (K- 4th) In this class, students will expand their trapeze vocabulary to learn more advanced tricks and increase strength. Students will create and perform routines, and also gain some experience with improvisation and rope-work.

Kids Trapeze (3rd-6th): In this class, students will learn more advanced skills and will combine some of the moves into a structured sequence.

Teen Advanced Trapeze (6-8th): Students will learn more advanced single and doubles tricks in this class. In addition, we will focus on sequencing moves into phrases, concentrating on making seamless transitions. Students will also work on helping create individual and group pieces. Previous trapeze experience and a basic vocabulary of trapeze moves is required for the class.

Beginner IV Silks/Fabrics: Students will continue learning basic vocabulary and proper technique for their work on the aerial fabrics. Wear tight fitting clothes, full leg and arm coverage recommended.

Intermediate Silks/Fabrics: Students will continue to learn vocabulary on silks and start working on basic sequences. Prerequisite – Beginner Fabrics or permission by teacher. Wear tight fitting clothes, full leg and arm coverage recommended.

Silks/Fabrics Repertory: A self-directed workshop. Students share vocabulary and work on individual and group pieces. Closed class; see director for more information. Wear tight fitting clothes, full leg and arm coverage recommended.

OTHER MOVEMENT ARTS

Yoga We will explore dynamic and restorative aspects of yoga. Class is a blend of breath work, standing and seated poses, twists, core strength work and relaxation.

Extreme Conditioning: This class starts with an intensive mat Pilates warm-up followed by flexibility and strength exercises using the trapeze as a support. No trapeze experience necessary.
